House Tour

The 51st Annual Tour is on May 16!

Every year since 1959, upwards of a thousand people have toured the houses of Park Slope.

In the early years, the Civic Council used the House Tour as a way to convince people to move here rather than the suburbs, thus playing a major role in saving Park Slope from the ravages that destroyed many other New York City neighborhoods.

In more recent years, the House Tour, generally held the first Sunday after Mothers' Day, has become the major fund raiser for the Civic Council, with proceeds plowed back into the community in our Grants Program.

Read about the $10,000 we awarded last year to 18 neighborhood schools and organizations.

In addition to ticket sales, proceeds come from House Tour sponsors. Sponsors for this year's tour are:

The many volunteers who make the Tour work include house sitters plus the PSCC Trustees and members who who, from January to May, select homes, raise funds, coordinate publicity, sell tickets, write and edit the brochure, design the poster and the street banner, recruit and organize the sitters, coordinate flowers, and arrange for tour buttons and tickets.

And, of course, the Tour would not be possible without our neighbors who open their homes and institutions.

Reserve your tickets on-line now for the 2010 House Tour, May 16, noon-5pm. (Bring your receipt to the check-in table, where it can be exchanged for tickets.)

This year's tour, our 51st, will feature homes from President Street to 2nd Street in the Center Slope. The starting point will be the Poly Prep Lower School at Prospect Park West and 1st Street. Read about the highlights here.

A special feature this year, for ticket holders only, will be a panel discussion following the tour on "Greening Park Slope Brownstones" with Ellen Honigstock, Ellen Honigstock Architect PC; Ken Levenson, Levenson McDavid Architects PC; and Sam McAfee, Sumner Green LLC.

Take the Tours:
PSCC publishes a booklet for each House Tour, offering histories of each house visited, plus a description of architectural highlights along the walk from house to house.
