Mitch Szpicek, Trustee

Mitch is a lifelong Brooklyn resident and the 2nd generation owner of Little Things Toy Store. After working at Little Things as a young adult he realized his dream and entered the New York City Police Department. While at the NYPD Mitch had taken a fondness for crime reporting and statistics. To quench his thirst for numbers he took a part time job at H&R Block and then afterwards established his own Tax practice for more than two decades. In the NYPD he worked as a plainclothes officer throughout the Transit System and then as a Sergeant at various commands in Brooklyn before leading the Brooklyn South Pattern Identification Module. During the latter part of his career Mitch worked as a Lieutenant in the Crime Strategies and Analysis section at One Police Plaza helping to implement citywide crime reduction processes.

After twenty years of service at the NYPD he retired and has been the owner of Little Things Toy Store for the last ten plus years. Mitch has volunteered for numerous roles within the Park Slope Chamber of Commerce. He served as its President for several years and as the current Vice President lead the Chamber’s effort to implement a BID for 7th Avenue. Mitch hopes to use the trusteeship to further advocate for small businesses and enhance the environment for visitors and residents of Park Slope.
