#4thAveYarnBomb is a colorful success

YarnBomb

It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood on October 10, when the bright autumnal weather was matched by an installation of multihued fabric art – created by knitters and crocheters from Park Slope, Gowanus and Boerum Hill – along the Fourth Avenue fence at the Washington Park, between Third and Fourth Streets.

The installation pieces were created both at home and at two workshops facilitated by Arts Gowanus, the Textile Arts Center, Park Slope Civic Council’s Forth on Fourth Avenue (FOFA) committee, and the Old Stone House & Washington Park. The Yarn Bomb celebrates Fourth Avenue and Gowanus Open Studios 2015 (October 16-18).

The installation coincided with the Kings County 4th Annual Fiber Festival held at the Old Stone House. It brought colorful, surprising
and street-friendly fabric art to Fourth Avenue, and was community generated, with participants supplying materials and labor, plus a generous donation of yarn and needles from Lion Brand Yarn.

The installation will be in place until the week after the NYC Marathon.
