Letter to Landmarks Preservation Commission
In support of the Park Slope Historic District Extension, the PSCC sent this letter to Sarah Carroll, Chair of NYC
The creation of the Park Slope Historic District in 1973, led by the Park Slope Civic Council, helped revive the neighborhood after years of disinvestment. The district’s landmark designation protected 1,800 buildings and preserved the area’s architectural character. In the late 90s, the Civic Council pushed for district expansions, successfully adding the South Slope in 2012 and the North Slope in 2016. Their efforts continue with the goal of expanding protections in the Center Slope, which includes over 1,500 buildings. The Civic Council’s ongoing advocacy is supported by the Historic District Council, aiming for further expansion and preservation of Park Slope’s architectural legacy.
