It’s been a busy few weeks for many Civic Council committees, from a longstanding group that’s working to preserve Park Slope’s historical essence to a new initiative focusing on Fourth Avenue.
Expanding on recent efforts to help shape a stronger future for Fourth Avenue, the Civic Council has called on the city’s Department of City Planning to revise the current zoning along the thoroughfare to better serve the community.

Some 40 people came along for a Park Slope Civic Council-led walk, called “Moving Forward on Fourth,” on the crisp fall morning of Nov. 6. Experienced members of the community shared their knowledge with participants at 10 stops along the way and discussed a range of ideas for the thoroughfare.

Park Slope has had a complicated relationship with the longstanding community-mural movement. Very few of these wall paintings have ever been undertaken here, and of those, some were actively opposed by residents in the immediate vicinity much like many bike lanes are today.
