Good Neighbors of Park Slope (GNPS) is a new non-profit, aging-in-place organization, open to residents of Park Slope and surrounding areas who are age 50 and over. Our goal is to create a network of members to make life in our neighborhood easier and more fulfilling, while maintaining our autonomy and quality of life in our homes. We will be developing the organization in phases. Phase One will concentrate on social activities, information and resource sharing, and advocacy. Since one of the greatest obstacles to aging in place is the inability to afford rising rents, our first advocacy project is to make sure our neighbors are aware of the Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption (SCRIE) and to help them apply. Phase Two will explore developing a wider array of services for members and a more formal volunteer system. You can learn more about all of our activities at goodneighborsofparkslope.org.
