Historic Signs Are on the Way for South Slope

Following the expansion of the Park Slope Historic District to portions of the South Slope last year, the Landmarks Preservation Foundation has confirmed that the area is on the city Department of Transportation’s list to receive historic-district street signs this year.

Historic District Sign by David Herman 20120627DOT will be completing the installation later this year for the 2013 recipients, which reflects the delays attributable to Hurricane Sandy. The Park Slope Civic Council will combine the installation of these signs with a neighborhood celebration of the South Slope Expansion. Keep an eye out for the date!

Last April, the city’s Landmarks Preservation votes historic-district protection to 580 buildings in the South Slope. The expansion reflects five years of advocacy and outreach by the Civic Council’s Historic District Committee, which has entailed efforts by dozens of volunteers and the full support of its elected officials.
