FABLED PARK SLOPE HOUSE TOUR RETURNS ON SUNDAY, JUNE 2
The Park Slope Civic Council announced today that it is re-launching the fabled Park Slope House Tour and that it will, for the first time, focus on houses and apartments with sustainable technology, including rooftop solar, heat pumps, triple- glazed windows—and even certified passive homes.
The tour will take place on Sunday, June 2, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.
The Civic Council began the Annual House Tour in 1959 to showcase the extraordinary brownstone, limestone and brick row houses that make up so much of Park Slope. In its early years, the House Tour played an important role in raising awareness of Park Slope’s desirability as a place to live, attracting hundreds of curious New Yorkers eager to learn more about the neighborhood.
After suspending the tour in 2020 due to the pandemic, the Civic Council is bringing it back with a focus on next-generation sustainable technology.
Timothy Gilles, Civic Council President, said: “For decades, we showed New Yorkers how tasteful and affordable renovations could turn 100-year-old brownstones into stunningly handsome and comfortable homes. Now, we hope to demonstrate that you can be on the leading edge of environmental sustainability and stewardship as well.”
The tour will feature houses, as well as coop and condo apartments, where the owners have made a commitment to sustainability. It will include brownstones that have been retrofitted with technologies that are appropriate for an existing structure, as well as gut renovation jobs where architects have designed a 100% passive home.
Two newly built apartment buildings that incorporate many passive house features are also on the tour.
Proceeds will support a program of small grants to up and coming neighborhood arts and cultural organizations.
