Livable Streets

Since its post-Civil War origins, Park Slope has been a diverse community where people from all backgrounds connect while shopping on Fifth and Seventh Avenues, walking to school or worship, enjoying Prospect Park, or traveling by bus, streetcar, or subway. It’s a place where neighbors meet and chat.

Park Slope’s vibrant street life is a key asset. The Livable Streets Committee works to improve safety, use, and quality of the streets, sidewalks, and streetscape, collaborating with neighboring communities. Successful initiatives, such as the “Future of Fourth Avenue” forum, led to lasting change. In 2015, the committee focused on aging, disability access, public art, and streetscape advocacy.
