After an extensive renovation, the Park Slope Library is at long last ready to reopen its doors on Thursday, Sept. 13!

This neighborhood branch of the Brooklyn Public Library, at 431 Sixth Ave. between Eighth and Ninth Streets, will feature new and improved reading and public spaces for children, teens, and adults. The historic Carnegie branch had was closed in October 2009 for the project. (Read more about the overhaul in the Summer 2012 Civic News.)

In addition to equipment and technology enhancements, from iPads to self-checkout machines, renovations include a new exterior, an ADA-compliant ramp and door, and a specially designed children’s reading room on the first floor.

The library is a beloved space and an important resource for Park Slope. You can help keep it that way. The Park Slope Civic Council and City Councilmember Brad Lander are planning a “friends group” for the Park Slope Library. Such a group could:

  • Raise awareness and enthusiasm about the local library
  • Promote the library’s resources and programs
  • Keep local officials aware of the library’s importance
  • Raise funds to enhance local library service

Join us on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 6:30 p.m., at the library to you can be more involved with your “new” library. For more information, contact Catherine Zinnel at Councilmember Lander’s District Office, 718.499.1090 or czinnel@council.nyc.gov.
