Outside of the Park Slope Historic District, buildings can be demolished, altered in inappropriate ways, or stripped of their architectural features. There’s more to the Civic Council’s work than just the initiatives approved by our trustees and members. Every year, we also provide up to $10,000 in grants to local nonprofits and noncommercial organizations that have an impact on the quality of life in our neighborhood.

Every third Sunday in May, the Civic Council hosts a self-guided walking tour of lovely and interesting homes in Park Slope, a new section every year. Ticket-holders get a handsome illustrated brochure describing the history and interior of each home, along with a suggested route.
