Our annual Brooklyn Kids Charity Walkathon will be held on Friday, May 12 at 4:30 pm at the Grand Army Plaza entrance to Prospect Park. Click here to donate, and click HERE to see our crisp Eventbrite page. This is an opportunity for elementary, middle and high-school students to participate in a local charity event and build civic spirit. Brooklyn kids doing something for other Brooklyn kids! We’re working with the student bodies in our local schools to organize this event and all donations will go to CHiPS – a local Brooklyn soup kitchen and shelter for homeless women and their children.

The PSCC Walk-a-thon is en route to becoming an annual way for kids and families to celebrate SPRING “in full bloom.” We know how lucky we are to have Prospect Park (check out this link to see Ralph Waldo Emerson “channeled” into the 21st century) nearby, and it’s a great occasion to remind our kids that for some people, life in Brooklyn is far less idyllic – and to do something about it! This video does not feature “our kids,” of course – much less “our park” – but it does a great job of capturing the joy an event like this universally evokes! … SO …

Families, parents and guardians are encouraged to participate, as well. Everyone will walk the top loop. After the event, you can picnic in the park, hit one of our local restaurants or head home to enjoy your Friday night plans. Donations can be made on cash or check or by credit card though a link on our Civic Council website. Any amount truly helps and we’re hoping to raise $2500!! Click here to donate!
