For over a decade, the Park Slope Civic Council and friends have advocated in vain to landmark our beloved Pacific Branch Library. However, two new developments have reopened that possibility.
First, the Brooklyn Library has made a commitment to keep the library in place and to search for ways to make capital and program improvements.
Second, working with gowanuslandmarkscoalition@gmail.com, PSCC has persuaded the Landmarks Commission to review five buildings in Gowanus for landmarking – but not (yet) the Pacific Branch (see earlier article on our website).
Now is the time to push again to preserve this historic building – to make “official” what some people think has already happened. Join us in our efforts to protect and preserve this building and keep it safe from future waves of development.
