The Brooklyn Greenway Initiative has many friends, program partners, and supporters who live and work along Brooklyn’s waterfront — especially in Red Hook, which was among those neighborhoods hardest hit by last week’s hurricane. With so many pressing needs for assistance, we have decided to donate the proceeds from our fall benefit to the newly formed Brooklyn Recovery Fund, a Hurricane Sandy relief fund jointly administered by the Brooklyn Community Foundation, the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and the Brooklyn Borough President’s Office.
Monday, Nov. 12, 6-9 p.m.
Chió Restaurant, 117 Columbia St.,
in Brooklyn’s Columbia Waterfront District
Help the Intiative raise funds needed to help Brooklyn recover and rebuild after Hurricane Sandy’s devastation — 100% of ticket sales will be donated to the Brooklyn Recovery Fund, so please purchase a ticket at the highest level you can. A check will be presented to Brooklyn Community Foundation at the benefit.
If you are unable to attend on Nov. 12 but would like to make a contribution, consider giving via the Brooklyn Greenway Initiative website. All individual contributions received by BGI between now and Nov. 12 will be donated to the Brooklyn Recovery Fund. If you have questions, please call the BGI office at 718.522.0193 or email Brian McCormick, the organization’s director of development and administration,at bmccormick@brooklyngreenway.org.
At the benefit, the Initiative will be honoring the Brooklyn Borough President’s Office for channeling $1.5 million in New York State funding to the Greenway and allocating $1.5 million in the New York City 2013 capital budget for the Sunset Park Connector section of the Greenway. John Osborn will also be honored for providing invaluable legal services as BGI assumes new roles in project implementation.
Guests will also receive a briefing on those segments of the Greenway which are now in the implementation pipeline from Ted Wright, New York City Department of Transportation senior project manager for the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway, as well as a complimentary copy of Building the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway, which summarizes the Implementation Plan released in June 2012.
The Brooklyn Greenway Initiative thanks the event sponsors: Chió, The O’Connell Organization, Industry City, Waterfront Wines & Spirits, Brooklyn Brewery, and Brownstoner.
