Berryl Schiffer, Former Trustee and Former Managing Editor, Park Slope Civic Council Civic News
A member of the Council since 2014 and a former trustee, Berryl’s infatuation with the beauty and charm of brownstone Brooklyn emerged while a student at nearby Pratt Institute in Clinton Hill. Fast forward to 1984 – Berryl and her husband purchased their first coop on Garfield Place at 5th Avenue before settling in a pre-war multi-family building in the central Slope, all the while knowing there was no neighborhood they’d rather live and raise their two sons.
A devotee of the visual arts, design and architecture in combination with her commercial printing and magazine publishing experience, Berryl’s professional skill-set prepared her for leading the production and distribution of the twice yearly Civic News newsletter as Managing Editor since late 2014. Her experience also contributed to her continued involvement in the promotion of many of the Council’s programming and marketing efforts.
What drew Berryl to the neighborhood years ago has grown to a deep appreciation for the Civic Council’s advocacy efforts to improve the quality of life for all our neighbors.
