Berryl Schiffer

Berryl Schiffer, Civic News Managing Editor

A member of the Council since 2014, Berryl’s infatuation with the beauty and charm of brownstone Brooklyn emerged during her college years at nearby Pratt Institute in Clinton Hill.  Fast forward to 1984: Berryl and her husband purchased their first coop on Garfield Place and 5th Avenue, and raised their two sons on Berkeley Place before moving to a pre-war building on Prospect Park West, all the while knowing there was no place they’d rather live and raise a family.

A devotee of the arts, design and architecture, and drawing from her professional printing and publishing expertise, Berryl’s skill set prepared her to produce and distribute the twice yearly Civic News Newsletter as Managing Editor since the Fall of 2014. It has truly fit the bill for supporting the Civic Council’s Art Slope, Age Friendly, and Food for Thought outreach initiatives, among others. What drew Berryl to the neighborhood still sustains her spirited enthusiasm for helping to spread the word about the Council’s stellar efforts to preserve the Slope’s architectural integrity, advocate for safety and quality of life of our neighbors, and encourage a sense of responsibility and caring about our ever-evolving Park Slope community.
