John Mazurek

John Mazurek, Trustee, Marketing Committee Chair and Ortner Awards Chair

John first visited Park Slope August 27th, 1996, was immediately smitten, and moved  here permanently 2 months later. Originally, he was struck by the classic architecture and deep history of the area. But it was the community spirit and progressive vision of art, new shops, and development that made him plant roots. Wanting to continue the work of those who came before him, he decided to attend PSCC meetings, and then become a trustee. Like many of us, he’s disturbed by the number of stores closing and commercial vacancies. John is a firm believer in creating outreach and marketing opportunities for small businesses, and developing campaigns encouraging community members to buy local.

John has been an ArtSlope Festival Theater Chair, has sat on the Age Friendly Park Slope committee and participated in its events He has also participated in the Far Rockaway Rebuild (Hurricane Sandy damage), helped with many of PSCC’s Civic Sweeps, and can be seen hamming it up in the annual PSCC Halloween Parade. As the Chair for the Everett and Evelyn Ortner Preservation Awards (awards that honor projects or efforts to maintain the neighborhood’s historic character) he hopes to enhance what’s been given to him and pass it on to the next generation.

As a local real estate broker, John introduces new people into our neighborhood all the time, and is enthusiastic about expanding the Civic Council’s membership! Marketing, outreach, canvassing, event organizing and public speaking are all passions that John has brought to the Civic Council.
