Michael Mallon

Michael Mallon, Trustee

Michael Mallon serves as Director of Intergovernmental Affairs for Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. In this role, Michael oversees the Borough President’s Civic Engagement Committee, a consortium of nonprofit and civic leaders who volunteer their time to educate members of the public on ranked choice voting, redistricting and reapportionment, and other matters of concern for New York City voters. The Committee was instrumental in driving up NYC’s Census 2020 response rate. Previously, Michael served as Communications Director for the NYC Council’s Finance Chair. Michael has helped thousands of Queens residents overcome workplace and housing discrimination, immigration issues, domestic violence and other concerns. Having become deeply involved in LGBTQ+ activism over a decade ago, Michael is a board member of the Lambda Independent Democrats of Brooklyn and the Stonewall Democratic Club of NYC. He has organized for the passage of statewide legislation to secure workplace protections for transgender and gender nonconforming people, and is proud to have been a leader in the effort to curtail the practice of conversion therapy. As a founding member of CUNY’s LGBTQI Student Leadership Advisory Council, he has mentored students, hosted roundtable discussions for students and elected officials, and educated students on the workings of city government. Michael has raised tens of thousands of dollars for social service organizations that serve the LGBTQ+ people and people living with HIV/AIDS. A fighter for better mass transit, Michael is a founding member of the Riders Alliance. He lives in Park Slope with his husband Albert.
