For more than 60 years, the Park Slope Civic Council has sponsored an annual House Tour that showcases wonderful homes in the neighborhood. In 2020, our unbroken streak was interrupted by the pandemic, but we were able to create an online tour due to a marvelous award from the Historic Districts Council, the leading organization that advocates for New York City’s historic districts.
The HDC’s grant (see details below) enabled us to create a 3-part series of Virtual House Tours on Zoom with noted architectural historian Francis Morrone.
In addition to its impact on the House Tour, the pandemic forced the cancellation of our other annual fundraising event, Food for Thought. Those two events provided dedicated revenue streams for our college scholarship program and our Community Grants program that funds local Park Slope nonprofits. We’re working to continue funding these programs and would greatly appreciate your help. Go to: www.parkslopeciviccouncil.org and click on Join/Renew/Donate to help out.
Again, we offer our thanks to the Historic Districts Council for the grant that made these virtual tours possible. We are honored that the HDC has endorsed the Civic Council’s proposal to expand the Park Slope Historic District to include the iconic Center Slope area. More detail on the HDC’s award here.
FYI: For those who have asked, we, unfortunately, do not have a recording of the first tour in this series.
