The Park Slope Civic Council hosted its annual Spring Civic Sweep on Earth Day – Saturday, April 22nd from 10 am-2 pm in front of the Old Stone House on 5th Avenue between 3rd and 4th Streets.
We had over 40 volunteers help us clean up our neighborhood over the course of the day – not only by picking up trash, but also by removing graffiti. We filled over 20 trash bags full of garbage from the streets, and spread good cheer around the neighborhood in celebration of Earth Day.
We host this event each year around Earth Day because of the importance of this day and its place in American history. It is one of the few times in our collective citizenry where people from all walks of life joined forces to recognize the impact of humans on the planet and to foster change to improve environmental conditions affecting the air, sea, freshwater, land and biodiversity of this precious planet Earth. These efforts start in the home, and the focus of our celebration was on residential solutions and increasing awareness among the families in our immediate community.
