City Councilmember Brad Lander is once again giving local residents the chance to decide how $1 million in city funding should be spent within the community. Lander is one of four councilmembers taking part in this funding mechanism for local projects.
The process, known as participatory budgeting, provided funding for seven different projects, all voted on by some 3,000 participants. “Now we are starting again,” Lander said on his website, “with another $1 million and your great ideas. Like last year, the whole process depends on you.” Lander’s office also produced a video about last year’s efforts:
Neighborhood assemblies are the first step in participatory budgeting — community meetings where residents share their ideas for projects to build in our neighborhood. The next such gathering takes place on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 6:30 p.m., at Greenwood Baptist Church, 461 Sixth St. (corner of Seventh Avenue). (RSVP here.)
